Which watch strap buckle model should you choose ?

While replacing a watch strap buckle may be necessary after the original buckle breaks, it is often the simplest and most economical way to improve the style of your watch. Since some strap models, even high-end ones, are not equipped with a reliable and attractive buckle, investing in a folding buckle is also a worthwhile purchase. Once in place, it quickly becomes apparent that simply replacing the original buckle enhances the design of the strap and the watch. This change is especially noticeable when opting for a folding clasp, a type of mechanism that has become more popular than the traditional pin buckle.

Folding clasp

The folding clasp has an articulated mechanism that folds and unfolds. Unlike a traditional clasp, the two parts of the strap remain connected, which keeps the watch on the wrist in the event of mishandling or accidental opening. The initial adjustment can be done in-store, but it is fairly easy to attach the ends of the clasp to the strap. Il s’agit du modèle de boucle le plus classique, mais pas le plus pratique, l’ardillon étant cette petite tige en métal qui s’insère dans les trous du bracelet. Une boucle ardillon fonctionne donc sur le principe d’une boucle de ceinture, mais, compte tenu de son format, son maniement n’est pas toujours aisé. Si ce type de fermeture est simple, fiable et convient à la plupart des bracelets de montre, notons qu’il fragilise le bracelet. En effet, à l’endroit où la boucle a l’habitude de se fermer, on constate assez vite une usure prématurée du bracelet causée par la bordure de la boucle. C’est la raison pour laquelle, lorsque l’on possède une montre équipée d’un bracelet en cuir, la boucle déployante est le meilleur choix.
