The ideal size of a strap also depends on how you will use your watch, the level of comfort you seek, and how you like to wear it on your wrist. Before choosing a new strap, it is therefore important to ask yourself three essential questions: is the strap intended to replace an existing model, will it be worn permanently or interchangeably, and do you prefer a tight or looser fit. Replacing the strap of an already equipped watch If you want to replace a worn strap or simply change the style of your watch, the process is relatively simple. When the comfort of the current strap is satisfactory, it is advisable to base your choice on its existing dimensions. Measure the lug width as well as the total length of the two ends to maintain the same balance. It is also important to check whether you want to keep the original buckle or clasp. Many luxury watches or vintage watches are equipped with branded buckles that are best reused. In this case, you must also measure the width on the buckle side, which is usually 2 mm narrower than the lug width. Finally, the condition of the spring bars, also known as pins, should not be neglected. Worn spring bars can compromise the safety of the watch.
